Appspace Certified devices have been fully validated by the Appspace Development and Quality Assurance teams. They are tested in Appspace QA labs against defined certification criteria, undergo full regression and compatibility testing with each Appspace release, and receive official Appspace support for certified functionality.

The Appspace App for Devices can be installed on a wide range of industry-standard hardware platforms and operating systems, making it suitable for deployments of any size. It is ideal for:

  • Digital signage on single or multi-screen displays, video walls, and media players
  • Room scheduling on tablets, desk pucks, or interactive display panels
  • Interactive kiosks for visitor management, wayfinding, and employee directories
  • Enterprise TV for displaying channels and live streams on IPTVs

Most supported devices include internal storage, allowing Appspace content to be cached locally for reliable playback.

Important

  • Appspace can only assure compatibility for the OS and firmware versions it actively tests, as listed on this page.
  • Reference models are device models tested in the Appspace product engineering lab. Devices with similar specifications may also be compatible, but we recommend working with a systems integrator or Appspace reseller to confirm suitability. Contact us if you need help finding a partner.
  • To ensure optimal performance, security, and compatibility with Appspace's latest features, review the Appspace Device App Version Support Policy.
  • For end-of-life information, see the Appspace Device End of Life (EOL) Policy and Lifecycle.
  • For a list of devices supported by a specific app version, see Supported App Versions.

ChromeOS Flex version 138.0.0.0 AOpen Ace AOpen DE3650-S Digital Signage / Room Scheduling / Kiosks / Enterprise TV Caching via Chrome Web Store
  Dell OptiPlex Dell OptiPlex 3020

Important

Appspace only supports managed Chrome-based devices. Google Chrome Enterprise (previously Chrome Device Management) is required to manage your Chrome-based devices.

Strengths

  • Industry-leading HTML5 compatibility.
  • Google Chrome Device Manager (CDM) for large-scale deployments (not supported for ChromeOS Flex).
  • Strong performance for H.264/MP4 video formats.
  • Single-app/kiosk mode available.
  • Well-suited for cloud deployments.

Challenges

  • Limited video format support (no multicast; only .mp4 H.264).
  • RS232 and PoE support limited to select devices.
  • CDM licenses required at an additional cost.

Summary

Chrome OS sets the standard for HTML5 compatibility and is highly compatible with Appspace features. Performance varies by hardware — a Chromebit is suitable for basic signage, while a Chromebox Commercial is better for demanding deployments. ChromeOS Flex is a lightweight option for repurposing existing hardware; refer to Google's ChromeOS Flex upgrade guide if it is not pre-installed on your device.

Device Limitations

  • (ChromeOS Flex only) Bulk device registration is not supported; devices must be registered individually.
  • (ChromeOS Flex only) Advanced Registration using the CDM Policy is not supported.
