Learn how to manage a Plain Text widget in a Multizone Signage Channel. This article is for Communicators who display text in a zone. After you read this article, you can add the widget, enter text, and set its style.

Prerequisites

You must be a Publisher for the selected location, channel, or channel group, or have another role that allows you to manage the channel.

Create a Multizone Signage Channel with at least one layout and one zone. See Create a Multizone Signage Channel.
Add a Plain Text Widget
Add Plain Text to a zone from the channel Edit tab. Follow the Add Widgets to a Zone steps in Create a Multizone Signage Channel, then select Plain Text from New widgets.
The widget appears in the content list for the selected zone, and you can type in it on the layout.
Enter Text
A new widget is empty and shows Add text here. Type in the widget on the layout. To change the text later, double-click the widget.
The same text is on the layout editor Edit tab, in the Properties accordion. With Dynamic Text off, Text Source is that text. New widgets have Dynamic Text turned off.

Select Channels from the Appspace menu.

Open the Multizone Signage Channel.

Select the Edit tab.

Select the layout that contains the Plain Text widget.

Select Edit from the layout more options menu.

Select the Plain Text widget.

Type the text on the layout.

Click Save on the layout editor header.
Style the Text
Select the widget. The formatting toolbar sets the font, size, text color, Bold, Italic, Underline, and alignment (Align left, Align center, or Align right). A new widget uses Arial, size 96, left alignment, and white text.
Use the Edit accordions for placement and style:

General — Name, Size, Position, Opacity, Animation In, and Animation Out.

Appearance — Background, Background Image, Border, and Margins.

Code — Widget GUID and Custom CSS.
The Permissions tab lists Publishers.
Tip: To open the layout editor from the channel Edit tab, select Edit from the layout more options menu, or click the + button on the widget and select Open editor.
Load Text from a URL
Turn on Dynamic Text in Properties when the text comes from a web address. Text Source becomes the URL. Sync copies the text from that address into the widget.

Open the layout editor and select the Plain Text widget.

Select the Edit tab.

Expand Properties.

Turn on Dynamic Text.

In Text Source, enter an http or https address. The field placeholder is https://example.com/text.txt.

Click Sync.

Click Save on the layout editor header.
Sync replaces the widget text with the full text returned from the URL. Sync is available when the address is a valid http or https URL. An invalid address shows Please enter a valid URL. A failed request shows Error syncing text source.
Note: Dynamic Text stores the full text returned from the URL.
Use Plain Text Actions
On the Actions tab, set the source to this Plain Text widget and choose a method or the Text Changed event. Build the action in Configure Signage Channel Widget Actions.
Text Changed exposes Text.
