Configure widget actions in Appspace Multizone Signage Channels to trigger behavior when a widget event occurs. Widget actions are configured on an individual widget and affect only that widget, while channel actions apply to the whole channel.

What’s in this article:

Prerequisites

  • You must be a Publisher for the selected location, channel, or channel group. A Manage widget or Manage content grant on a single widget does not include the Actions tab.

  • Create a Multizone Signage Channel and add at least one widget to a layout.

  • Review the available events, targets, and methods in Supported Signage Channel Actions and Events.

Note: Widget actions are configured in the layout editor. A widget opens there with these tabs: Edit, Content, Actions, Properties, and Permissions. The Content tab appears only for Media Zone, RSS Viewer, RSS Ticker, Event Calendar, Table Listing, Text Ticker, Media Container, and Remote Control.

Configure a Widget Action

A widget action combines an event, a target, and a method. The event determines when the action runs, the target determines what the action affects, and the method determines what the action does. The selected widget is the source. The New Action panel does not include a Source field. If the widget has no actions yet, the list shows No actions configured yet.

  1. Select Channels from the Appspace menu.

  2. Open the Multizone Signage Channel.

  3. Select the Edit tab.

  4. Select the layout that contains the widget.

  5. Select Edit from the layout more options menu.

  6. Select the widget you want to configure.

  7. Select the Actions tab.

  8. Click Add.

  9. Select the action event from the Event menu.

  10. Select the action target from the Target field.

  11. Select the action method from the Method menu.

  12. Enter any required method parameters.

  13. Click Save on the New Action panel.

  14. Click Save on the layout editor header.

The New Action panel opens after you click Add. After you save the panel and the layout, the action appears in the widget actions list.

Tip: You can also open the layout editor from the layout preview. Click the + button on the widget and select Open editor. Clicking a widget that has a Content view opens that content view instead of the layout editor.

Note: The events available on a widget vary by widget type. The methods available vary by the selected Target. Clock and Weather expose only the shared widget events. Remote Control and RSS Ticker expose events but have no widget-specific methods. See Supported Signage Channel Actions and Events.

Note: Confirm the action on the channel Preview tab, not the preview on the Edit page.

Configure Widget Action Conditions

Conditions appear only when the selected event has condition fields. Conditions define the requirements that must be met before the action runs. Many widget events, including Mouse Click / Touch, On Freeze, and On Unfreeze, do not expose condition fields.

  1. Select an event that supports conditions.

  2. Click + Add under Conditions.

  3. Select the condition logic from the Condition Logic menu.

  4. Select a condition Field.

  5. Select a comparison operator.

  6. Enter the condition value.

The action runs only when the configured condition requirements are met.

Condition Logic

Behavior

At least one condition is met

The action runs when any one configured condition is true.

Manage Widget Actions

Use the widget actions list to review, change, or remove the actions configured on a widget. Changes stay in the layout until you click Save on the layout editor header.

  1. Select the Actions tab for the widget.

  2. Select the action you want to change.

  3. Select Edit.

  4. Change the event, target, method, or conditions in the Edit Action panel.

  5. Click Save on the Edit Action panel.

  6. Click Save on the layout editor header.

To remove an action:

  1. Select the action you want to remove.

  2. Select Delete.

  3. Confirm the deletion.

  4. Click Save on the layout editor header.

The widget actions list reflects your changes after you save the layout.
