Description

The video displays only a green screen due to an issue with GPU rendering, generally with NVIDIA graphics cards.

Root Cause Analysis (RCA)

What happens under the hood is that the GPU rendering becomes incompatible with the system hardware. The other reasons for this issue might be outdated graphics card drivers, outdated flash players, etc.

Troubleshooting Guide

Ensure the following:

  1. Check the video URL from the browser.

Solution

To fix this issue, the first step is to disable GPU-accelerated rendering in your browser. The method to complete this action varies from browser to browser.

Disable GPU-accelerated rendering:

  • Google Chrome users:
    1. Open a Google Chrome browser window and select the menu button (the three dots button in the top-right corner).
    2. Next, select settings. Scroll down and select the advanced button.
    3. Under the System section, disable the toggle of Use hardware acceleration when available.
    4. Restart Google Chrome.
    5. When it starts up again, type chrome://gpu/ into the address bar and press the enter key. This will now display if Hardware Acceleration or GPU Rendering is disabled or not.
  • Firefox users:
    1. Open a Firefox browser window > options.
    2. Now under the General section, scroll down to performance
    3. Uncheck the use hardware acceleration when available option.
    4. Restart Firefox.
  • Internet Explorer users:
    1. Type inetcpl.cpl in the search box and press the enter key. The IE properties box will open up. Select the advanced tab.
    2. Under the section accelerated graphics, check the button that says use software rendering instead of GPU rendering.
    3. Select OK and then reboot your computer for the changes to take effect.

The second step is to update your graphics card drivers. Move on to the next section.

Update your graphics card drivers:

  1. From the WinX menu, open the device manager.
  2. Expand the display adapters list.
  3. Right-click on the listing of your NVIDIA graphics card and select enable.
  4. Right-click the graphics card again and select update driver software…
  5. A new window will open. Select search automatically for updated driver software.
  6. If Windows now detects your graphics card and the latest driver for it, great! Otherwise, proceed to the next step.
  7. Right-click the graphics card again and select update driver software…
  8. Select the browse my computer for driver software option.
  9. Select the let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer option.
  10. Select a compatible driver for your computer titled NVIDIA Graphic Card and proceed further.
  11. Let the whole process finish, then restart your PC for the changes to take effect.
