Learn how to use Skills in an Appspace AI conversation. Skills appear in the slash command menu so you can load a specialized capability without typing a long prompt. This article is for employees and communicators who chat with an assistant that has skills attached. After you finish, you can open the slash menu, find a skill, add any parameters, and send it.

For: Communicators and Employees — Slash-menu skill invoke

Prerequisites

  • You can open an AI conversation in Appspace (for example from Employee View or another surface where the conversational assistant is available).

  • The assistant in your conversation has one or more skills attached and enabled by an administrator.

Open the Slash Menu

  1. Open a conversation with the assistant you want to use.

  2. In the message box, type /.

The command menu opens above the composer. Skills appear in their own Skills group, separate from Quick Actions and Commands.

Note: If no skills are available for this conversation, the menu still shows quick actions and built-in commands.

Find and Select a Skill

  1. Keep typing after / to filter skills together with the other menu entries.

  2. Use the arrow keys or pointer to highlight a skill, then select it.

The skill is inserted into the message as a slash command (for example /my-custom-skill). If the skill defines parameters, placeholder hints appear after the command so you know what to fill in.

Add Parameters and Send

  1. If the skill shows parameter hints, type values after the skill command using --parameterName value flags (for example /expense-report --month June).

  2. Send the message.

The assistant runs the skill for this conversation. Leave a flag blank if you do not need that parameter; empty flags are not sent.

Note: Built-in commands (such as starting a new conversation or downloading a PDF) run locally when you select them or type their slash token. An unknown slash token shows Unknown command: with the token you typed, instead of being sent as a normal message.
