I have 1 location that allows me to auto update and or check a device and select “update device”, these devices are on v2.100 i have a second location on the same vlan where it doesn’t allow an update, these devices are on v2.52.1, i’ve gone through all settings on both locations and can’t find any difference, this environment was set up way before my time and not documented in a way that is of any assistance. I am trying to avoid having to update via SD as most of the players have very little accessability to retreive the SD cards without removing the Screens completely. Both locations have auto update enabled in the portal settings.

@adam nigro thanks for the additional context. I understand you’ve already compared both locations and confirmed that automatic updates are enabled. Given how difficult the players are to access, it makes sense to explore remote update options before considering an SD card update.

A few of the checks below may overlap with what you’ve already reviewed, but they can help identify a device override or inherited setting that’s easy to miss:

  • Device-level update settings: Go to Devices → select an affected device → Settings → Configuration → Software Updates. Check whether the device inherits the location policy or has its own Automatic or Manual setting. Compare this with a device at the working location.

  • App Version assignment: In the same area, check whether the affected device is assigned a specific app version that could prevent it from updating.

  • Location inheritance: Confirm where each location’s update policy comes from, including any parent location settings.

  • Network access: Although both locations use the same VLAN, confirm whether any device-specific firewall rules or URL restrictions could prevent the affected players from reaching the update endpoints.

Could you also confirm:

  • Are these BrightSign players, and which models are affected?

  • Do v2.100 and v2.52.1 refer to the Appspace App or player firmware?

  • Do the affected devices show as online and synced?

  • Is Update Device missing or disabled, or does the update fail after you select it?

This will help us narrow down the difference between the two locations and determine the next steps.
