Advanced Tasks in Appspace enable IT administrators to create, deploy, and manage commands for registered devices. The modernized interface provides task management actions, deployment status tracking, and detailed device responses for validating task execution and investigating issues.
Prerequisites
- The target devices must be registered and connected to Appspace.
- Access to the required location, device group, or device must be available.
- The appropriate administrative role is required to create and manage Device Tasks.
Note: To create or update Advanced Task templates, refer to Configure Task Templates in the Appspace Console. Task Templates are now located under Devices > Settings > Task Templates.
Create a New Device Task
- Log in to the Appspace console.
- Select Devices from the navigation menu.
- Select Tasks.
- Select the Advanced Tasks tab.
- Click Add Device Task.
- Select an Advanced Task template.
- Enter a name for the task.
- Configure the available task parameters.
- Select the device, device group, or location that will receive the task.
- Review the task configuration.
- Click Add to create and deploy the task.
The new task appears in the Advanced Tasks table. Its deployment status updates as the targeted devices process the task.
Note: The settings and parameters displayed in the task form depend on the selected Advanced Task template.
View Advanced Tasks
The Advanced Tasks table displays tasks within the selected location hierarchy. Use the location tree to narrow the task list to a specific location, device group, or device.
The table displays the task name, deployment target, deployment status, task responses, and available task actions.
The Deployed To column displays the name of the selected device, device group, or location.
Select a task name to open a read-only details window containing the task settings, parameters, and deployment information.
Search and Filter Device Tasks
Use the search and filter controls in the Advanced Tasks table to locate specific Device Tasks.
- Enter a task name in the search field to narrow the results.
- Apply the available filters to display tasks that match the selected criteria.
- Click a column heading to sort the table.
- Use the pagination controls to move between result pages.
The task count updates based on the current search and filter selections. If no tasks match the selected criteria, the table displays an empty-state message.
Manage Advanced Tasks
Use the More Actions (...) menu for a task to access the available management actions.
Run a Task Immediately
- Locate the task in the Advanced Tasks table.
- Click the More Actions (...) menu for the task.
- Select Run Now.
- Confirm the action when prompted.
The task is sent to its configured deployment targets. The deployment status updates as the targeted devices process the task.
View Task Details
- Select the task name in the Advanced Tasks table.
- Review the task configuration in the read-only details window.
- Click the X icon to close the window.
The details window displays the task settings, parameters, and deployment information without allowing changes.
Delete a Task
- Locate the task in the Advanced Tasks table.
- Click the More Actions (...) menu for the task.
- Select Delete.
- Confirm the deletion when prompted.
The task is removed from the Advanced Tasks table.
To delete multiple tasks, select the checkboxes beside the required tasks and use the available bulk delete action.
Advanced Task Statuses
The Advanced Tasks table uses the following deployment statuses:
- Pending — The task has been deployed, but processing has not started on one or more targeted devices.
- In Progress — The task is currently being processed by one or more targeted devices.
- Completed — Task processing has finished for the deployment.
For tasks deployed to multiple devices, the displayed status summarizes progress across all deployment targets.
Important: A Completed status indicates that processing has finished. It does not confirm that every device returned a successful result. Review the task responses for errors and execution details.
View Task Deployment Responses
Task responses provide information about how a task was processed by its targeted devices. The response workflow differs for single-device and multiple-device deployments.
View a Single-Device Response
- Locate the task in the Advanced Tasks table.
- Click the response value in the task row.
- Review the task and device information in the side panel.
- Review the raw response, transformed data, error details, and available files.
- Download an available file when further investigation is required.
The side panel may include downloadable diagnostic files or logs returned by the device.
View Responses for Multiple Devices
- Locate the task deployed to a device group or location.
- Click the response summary in the task row.
- Review the status and response availability for each targeted device.
- Select a device to open its detailed response.
- Review the returned data, error details, and available files.
The response summary identifies devices with Pending, In Progress, or Completed task statuses.
Access Task Templates
Task Templates are managed separately from deployed Device Tasks.
Navigate to Devices > Settings > Task Templates to access the modernized Task Templates page.
Administrators with the required role can:
- Create or import a Task Template.
- Search, sort, and filter Task Templates.
- Review templates within the accessible location hierarchy.
- Edit or export existing templates.
- Delete templates that are no longer required.
