Configure BrightSign custom settings in Appspace to set SSH, network, audio, and display options. Administrators configure these settings in the console instead of editing autorun code.

Configured settings are stored with the location, the device, or the BrightSign registration package. Location and device settings use a mode for each option. Advanced Registration writes fixed values into the package.

This article outlines the configuration steps for BrightSign custom settings.

Prerequisites

  • Account Owner or Location Admin permissions are required to configure BrightSign custom settings.

  • A BrightSign device is required. These settings apply to BrightSign devices only.

Configure BrightSign Custom Settings

  1. Log in to the Appspace console.

  2. Click the ☰ Appspace menu.

  3. Select Devices > Settings > Locations.

  4. Select the location.

  5. Click Device Custom Configurations.

Device Custom Configurations is displayed with Overview, Properties, and Notifications.

  1. If the page shows No Device Type Added, click Add Device Type, and then click BrightSign.

The BrightSign property form is displayed.

  1. For each setting, select one of the following mode options:

    • Inherit – Uses the nearest parent location that sets this option. The control names that location and its mode. With no parent value, the source is System default, which is Not Managed.

    • Set Value – Applies the value entered at this location. The fields are editable.

    • Reset to Device Default – Removes the Appspace-applied value and restores the device built-in default.

    • Not Managed – Leaves the current device setting unchanged.

Inherit of a Set Value is read-only. Reset to Device Default, Not Managed, and Inherit of either of those show Not set. Select Set Value again to restore the last entered value. The root location still offers Inherit.

  1. In the security settings, configure the following:

    • Enable SSH – Enables or disables SSH. Select a mode for this setting.

    • Diagnostics Web Server – Click Enable, and then select a mode. The port is not configurable.

    • CA certificate – Upload one .pem file. Set Value blocks Save when the file is missing or invalid. An empty inherited certificate shows No files uploaded. An inherited certificate is read-only.

  2. In the display and audio settings, configure the following:

    • HDMI Output 1 through HDMI Output 4 – Always listed. Each output has its own mode.

    • Resolution – Enter the resolution, for example 1920x1080x60p.

    • Transform – Select Landscape, Portrait, Inverse Landscape, or Inverse Portrait.

    • X Axis and Y Axis – Enter the axis values.

    • Audio Routing Mode – Select Dynamic or Pre-routed when audio is on.

    • Audio Route – Select PCM, Compressed, or Multi-channel.

    • Audio Output – Enter an output and commit it with a comma or semicolon. Supported values are none, hdmi, hdmi-1 through hdmi-4, usb, spdif, analog, and analog: plus digits, such as analog:0.

Set Value blocks Save when audio is on and the route or output is missing or unsupported. Audio volume is outside these settings.

  1. In the network settings, configure the following:

    • Enable Ethernet Controls – Shows the Ethernet fields. Turning the control off hides the other Ethernet fields. Turning it back on restores those values.

    • Enable DHCP – When DHCP is off, IP Address, Subnet Mask, Gateway, DNS1, DNS2, and DNS3 are optional. Turning DHCP on clears the address fields.

    • Enable Wi-Fi Controls – Shows the Wi-Fi fields. Turning the control off hides the other Wi-Fi fields.

    • SSID – Optional.

    • Password – A stored password shows Change Password. Change Password stays disabled while an inherited Wi-Fi setting already has a password. Switching inherited Wi-Fi to Set Value starts the local password empty.

  2. Click Save.

Save stays disabled until the form changes, while the configuration is invalid, or while a save is in progress. Click Cancel to restore the last loaded configuration.

When the page is left with unsaved changes, the Unsaved Changes dialog is displayed. Click Cancel to stay on the page. Click OK to discard the edit. Selecting another location discards the unsaved edit and loads that location.

Configure Advanced Registration

  1. Log in to the Appspace console.

  2. Click the ☰ Appspace menu.

  3. Open the BrightSign Package modal in Advanced Registration.

  4. Click Show More.

The custom settings form is displayed after Device Description, Device Group, and Device Tags.

Note: Package defaults are still saved when Show More stays collapsed. SSH is off and Diagnostic Web Server is on.

  1. In the BrightSign Package form, configure the following:

    • SSH – Off by default.

    • Diagnostics Web Server – On by default. The port is not configurable.

    • CA certificate – One .pem file. An invalid certificate blocks Download autorun.zip.

    • HDMI output – The form starts with one empty section and supports up to four. A blank section is left out of the package. Each section has Resolution, Transform, X Axis, and Y Axis.

    • Audio – Off by default. Turning Audio on sets Audio Routing Mode to Pre-routed. A missing or unsupported route or output blocks Download autorun.zip.

    • Ethernet – DHCP Enabled is on by default. When DHCP is off, the static address fields appear. Blank addresses do not block download.

    • Wi-Fi – Stays off until both SSID and Password are set. DHCP is on by default.

  2. Click Download autorun.zip.

Register Device with Code stays available when download validation fails.

Configure a Device

Note: The device tab is displayed only when the BrightSign device reports custom configuration support.

  1. Log in to the Appspace console.

  2. Click the ☰ Appspace menu.

  3. Open the BrightSign device.

  4. Open Device Settings.

  5. Click BrightSign Custom Configurations.

The device form is displayed. The same mode options and the same Save and Cancel behavior apply as on a location.

  1. Configure the required settings.

  2. Click Save.
