The Appspace SharePoint Intranet 5.1 release notes contain valuable information on the latest features, enhancements, bug fixes, and resolved escalations available in each public cloud release. 

The following is the release management schedule as per our Release Calendar for Appspace SharePoint Intranet:

  • New Appspace SharePoint Intranet functionality and major platform optimizations will now be released under quarterly release cycle. 
  • Critical updates including security patches or emergency fixes that support the reliability and availability of the Appspace platform will be deployed as necessary and as soon as it is administratively feasible.

NEW FEATURES & UPDATES

Features Description
Spotlight Search Redesign

We've completely redesigned Spotlight Search with a new look, powerful features, and a stronger foundation to help you find information faster than ever before.

Powerful Foundation & Expanded Data

  • SharePoint Integration: Spotlight Search is  now better integrated by leveraging the SharePoint Search engine, which indexes more attributes than previously possible, resulting in smoother content finding, accepting all existing ranking and relevance criteria for consistent, reliable results.
  • Richer Results: We've indexed critical attributes like activity type and entity properties to give you more meaningful search results. This expansion allows users to now find sites through descriptions and search Apps by category.

Enhanced User Experience (UI/UX)

We've rolled out a sleek new UI/UX designed for speed and accessibility:

  • WCAG 2.2 Conformant Search: Clicking the magnification icon now opens the search interface in a WCAG 2.2 conformant modal, ensuring high accessibility standards.
  • Instant Suggestions: Get suggestions immediately after typing just two characters.
  • Smart Filtering: Easily narrow your results with five dedicated categories: Content, People, Places, Files, and Apps.
  • Infinite Scroll: View extensive result sets seamlessly without clicking through pages.

What's New Under the Hood (Indexed Fields)

We've added new indexed fields and updated existing ones to power these improvements:

 

New Indexed Fields for Enhanced Display:

  • ActivitySubtype: Enables the display of specific badges for activities (e.g., the selected badge for Praises).
  • AppCategory, AppDescription, AppName, AppUrl: Provides full details, allowing users to search Apps by category and description.
  • GroupType: Determines the correct icon for Places (e.g., Communities, Blogs).
  • ImageUrl (Cross-field): Shows Place images, Story banners, and App icons in results.
 

Updated Usage of Existing Fields:

  • PublicAuthor: Now indexed for all activity types, ensuring you can search by and see the author/owner for every activity.
  • LocalEntity: Now included in the generic Activity type, improving retrieval of stories and pages relevant to your entity.

Enhanced Commenting Functionality

Enhanced Formatting & Media Support

  • Rich Text Editor: Comments now feature a Rich Text Editor, allowing you to format your text easily with options for bold, italics, and lists. Express yourself clearly and organize your thoughts better!

  • Media & File Attachments: You can now include image and file attachments directly within your comments, making feedback and collaboration instant and contextual. 

Refined User Flow

  • Consistent Commenting Experience: We've introduced an activity detail modal to provide a seamless and improved experience when viewing and adding comments across the platform.

Improved Comment Management

  • Explicit Sorting: The comment sorting functionality has been enhanced. It's now explicitly clear what the default order is, along with options to sort by Most Recent and Most Liked comments.

  • Clear Pinned Comments: The pin functionality has been improved to make it unmistakably clear which comment is pinned, especially within a long list of comments.

This release introduces a centralized comment management feature.

Hashtag Filtering
Easily find specific discussions by filtering your comment history using hashtags. This feature follows our existing UI design for smooth navigation and intuitive selection.

Notification Improvements

This release enhances how users manage notifications, providing clearer control and reducing clutter through weekly subscription digests.

What’s New

  • Weekly Digest Subscriptions: Users can now subscribe to weekly digests for the following content types:

    • Communities (existing feature)

    • Sites (existing feature)

    • Channels (new)

    • Topics (new)

  • Content Coverage in Digests: Weekly digests now include any new or updated Pages and Stories added to Topics and Channels.

  • Site Owner Notifications: Site owners will receive notifications when a question is posted on their site.

This update ensures users receive a consolidated, convenient summary of activity, while keeping notifications relevant and manageable.

Content Tags Consolidation

The “Narrow Down” tag filtering has been unified across the platform, starting with SA Blogs, allowing users to refine content consistently and see filtered results reflected in sharable URLs.

Key advantages:

  • Consistent tag-based filtering across all areas where tags are displayed

  • Ability to share filtered results via URL

  • Improved content discoverability and navigation

Editor and Table Improvements

In this release, users gain enhanced control over image editing and table formatting.

Manual Image Resizing
Users can now manually resize images across Pages, Stories, Community Blogs & Wikis, Questions, and Stand Alone Blogs.

Key improvements include:

  • Intuitive Drag Handles: Adjust image size with real-time dimension feedback.

  • Flexible Alignment: Resize images for left, right, center, and wide alignments.

  • Aspect Ratio Preservation: Maintains image proportions during resizing.

  • Toolbar Accessibility: Editing tools remain fully accessible while resizing.

  • Content Safety: Existing images remain unchanged unless edited.
    Note: Resizing is not available for images with full alignment.

Headers (Row & Column) in Tables 
Users can now designate any row or column within a table as a header, providing visual distinction and structural clarity for better content organization.

Pages & Stories Versioning

To provide better control and visibility over content history, versioning functionality has been introduced for both Pages and Stories.

 

What’s New

Content Versioning
Full versioning is now available for Pages and Stories, enabling users to:

  • Track and review content changes over time.

  • View and compare previous versions.

  • Restore content to an earlier state when needed.

Multi-Entity Editors/Writers Improvements

This feature introduces a unified content creation and management experience for multi-entity users within the Appspace SharePoint Intranet platform. It enables users to create, manage, and publish content seamlessly across multiple entities.

Key capabilities include:

  • Editors and Writers can:

    • Select topics and channels from all entities where they have the required roles and permissions.

    • Create and publish content (pages and stories) across entities, regardless of their default local entity.

  • Site Owners can:

    • Select pages and channels from multiple local entities.

    • Build and manage content collections that aggregate information from different entities.

    • Create a centralized intranet experience by presenting relevant and diverse content from across the organization on a single site.

Accessibility Conformity (WCAG 2.2)

Accessibility continues to be a core focus of our product development. In this release, we’ve made significant strides toward achieving stronger compliance with WCAG 2.2 standards and creating a more inclusive, intuitive experience for all users. Our efforts centered on improving consistency, discoverability, and usability, in particularly for users relying on assistive technologies.

 

What’s New

  • Improved WCAG 2.2 Compliance
    • Platform-wide refinements were made to improve conformity with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2). This includes updates to focus states, keyboard navigation, and input assistance to ensure better perceivability, operability, and understanding across all interfaces.
  • Enhanced Navigation and Interaction
    • Interactive components such as buttons, links, menus, and form fields have been reviewed and updated to support consistent tab order, clearer focus indicators, and logical reading sequences for screen readers. These changes make it easier for users to navigate and complete tasks without reliance on a mouse or touch gestures.
  • Improved Visual Clarity and Contrast
    • Color contrast ratios have been adjusted to meet WCAG 2.2 AA standards. This ensures that text, icons, and interactive elements remain distinguishable in various lighting conditions and for users with low vision or color vision deficiencies.
  • Refined Labels and Descriptions
    • Alternative text, ARIA labels, and form field descriptions have been enhanced to provide clearer, more descriptive context for users of screen readers. This improves the accuracy of content interpretation and supports more efficient navigation.
Export Data Functionality

A new feature has been introduced to simplify data extraction and reporting across the platform.

Resolved Customer Issues

 

  • BZP-28322: The URL generated when importing an event to a calendar from Events/SPA was incorrect, resulting in a 404 error due to the missing community ID in the event link.

  • BZP-28318: Users were unable to delete both the previous default and current default language versions of a page or story in Stories/Pages.

  • BZP-28314: Email notifications for announcements were still sent in Communities even when the email option was disabled in Intranet Settings, and the checkbox to send emails continued to appear in the announcement modal.

  • BZP-28285: When 'toggle list' is inside a Wiki, it fails to be translated through the 'See translation' link

  • BZP-28252: Keyboard users were unable to activate navigation menu options using Enter or Spacebar, preventing accessible navigation throughout the site.

  • BZP-28251: When folders are enabled in a community, images attached to posts display as file icons instead of image previews, which is the intended behavior.

  • BZP-28231: When adding a link to a lengthy app description, the link popup extends outside the iframe, making parts of the textbox and help text not visible.

  • BZP-28097:  Screen reader users were unable to navigate or select apps in the "Configure My Apps" modal using arrow keys, as NVDA did not announce or move focus between app items.

  • BZP-28033: Keyboard-only users were unable to expand or collapse navigation menu submenus on the Home page using the Enter key.

  • BZP-27959: A member, owner, admin, or not a member of the moderated community has only Like option available in Take Action in activity modal

  • BZP-27953: Images and videos with left alignment on a page overlapped each other instead of displaying side by side.

  • BZP-27950: The Bell notification popup displayed only the Like option for activities, with Share, Report, and Bookmark actions missing.

  • BZP-27932: After upgrading to 5.0, widgets on some Corporate Sites do not render due to missing LCID in the JSON.

  • BZP-27929: Text entered to the right of a left-aligned video is not top aligned with the video on the page.

  • BZP-27919: When clicking "Load more" in the user menu with more than 50 communities, additional communities are not displayed in the frontend, preventing access to the full list.

  • BZP-27891: Draft standalone blogs on non-English sites do not display titles and have a different look and feel compared to English version sites.

  • BZP-27876: Edit link for listed corporate pages in the site Pages section displays a 'Page not found' error instead of opening the page.

  • BZP-27875: Polls with multiline titles do not display the "Show more" link in "View my polls," and poll options containing long links appear outside the newsfeed frame.

  • BZP- 27874: On the Manage spaces screen, URLs listed for Stories and Pages redirect to the News for you or Pages for you screens instead of opening the specific story or corporate page, and the info popup overlaps.

  • BZP-27853: On the homepage newsfeed, clicking the box generated by an external link and then switching back to the homepage causes the box to appear blank.

  • BZP-27852: Clicking the 'Open document library' button in the Files tab of a community causes all front-end Intranet pages to refresh for an extended period, after which the banner appears shortened across tabs and remains so until the browser is refreshed.

  • BZP-27849: When using the autotranslate option while editing a page or story, the title field briefly appears duplicated.

  • BZP-27822: Clicking the 'Request Membership' button in a moderated community results in a 500 error in the console.

  • BZP-27712: The draft section of the SA Blog dashboard does not display the correct count for all drafts and My drafts blogs.

  • BZP-27689: SA blog redirection from notifications results in a 404 not found error.

  • BZP-27676: The owner of a SA Blog does not have access to the design tab after receiving the CM role.

  • BZP-27671: The tag icon is shifted out of the box in New link and Upload file in community.
